Tamils for Obama: President Must Appoint A Special Envoy To Deal With Situation In Sri Lanka

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 25, 2009

Tamils for Obama: The conflict in Sri Lanka had roots dating back at least to 1948, when Ceylon became independent. The causes that led to the long civil war (government-inspired race riots, stripping Tamils of political rights, uprooting Tamils and repopulating the vacated villages with Singhalese, etc.) have not been addressed. Although the fighting is over for the time being, it is certain to resume if the causes are not addressed. This deserves a special envoy with cabinet rank who can asses the problem and push a solution.

Tamils for Obama: U.N. is Hopeless and Useless, Should be Dismissed After Recent U.N. Human Rights Council Event

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 3, 2009

According to Tamils for Obama, the U.N. Human Rights Council resolved last week that Tamil Tigers are responsible for all killings this year, and the Sri Lankan government for none of them. The U.N. has refused to carry out its basic duties to protect minorities, Tamils for Obama said recently. The Financial Times last week wrote that "in what will be seen as a further blow to its already damaged credibility," the U.N.'s Human Rights Council adopted a resolution introduced by the Sri Lankan government that condemned the Tamil Tigers and ignored Sri Lankan outrages. The Tamils complain that the U.N. has been slow to act and silent when confronted with a clear duty to defend national minorities.

Tamils for Obama: Sri Lanka Launches Gas Attacks on Tamil Civilians, and Tamils Prepare for More

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 15, 2009

The Sri Lankan military has launched mustard gas attacks against Tamil civilians in the "safe zone." Tamils for Obama has prepared a list of procedures to follow in case of more poison gas attacks.

Tamils to Obama: Dramatic Action is Required in Sri Lanka

Scarsdale, NY (PRWEB) May 14, 2009

In a letter to the President, Tamils for Obama reminded him of his apparent pledge to use force to intervene in any situation involving genocide in progress. The Tamil American group cited a statement by his new U.N ambassador, and passed along three suggestions on how the Obama administration might respond to the crisis in Sri Lanka. Tamils for Obama also thanked the president for acknowledging the crisis in his White House speech of May 13, 2009.

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 11, 2009

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayaram Jayalalitha promised that she will support efforts to create a Tamil homeland within the island nation of Sri Lanka, and Tamils for Obama has sent her a public letter supporting her position and urging voters in her home state of Tamil Nadu to support her also.

Tamils Ask U.N. to Appoint Bill Clinton or Kofi Annan as U.N. Envoy to Sri Lanka

Scarsdale, NY (PRWEB) May 7, 2009

Doctor, Scholar Urge Four Nations to Drop Food and Medicine into "Safe Zone" in Sri Lanka

Scarsdale, NY (PRWEB) May 3, 2009

A Tamil American doctor and an Illinois legal scholar urged India, the U.S., Britain and France--the nations who can--to air drop food and medical supplies to civilians inside the "safe zone" in northern Sri Lanka. The doctor provided a lengthy description of the public health disaster that is currently going on in the ludicrously named "safe zone." The legal scholar explained that the four countries are obliged under the U.N.'s Geneva Conventions and Protocol to intervene to stop "illegal methods of warfare" and to help the victims.

Tamil Group Says Tamils Suffer for the Tokyo Co-Chairs' Bias

Scarsdale, NY (PRWEB) April 22, 2009

Tamils for Obama posted a letter to senior diplomats of the four bodies comprising the "Tokyo Co-Chairs" in which the Tamil American group detailed their grievances with the international group's work. Tokyo Co-Chairs is a group of four parties: Norway, Japan, the U.S., and the E.U. who brokered cease-fire talks between the Tamil Tigers and the government of Sri Lanka. Tamils contend that the Tokyo Co-Chairs were not honest brokers because they consistently took actions and positions favorable to Sri Lanka. One reason that bloodshed continues in Sri Lanka is the biased and half-hearted work by the Tokyo Co-Chairs.

Poll Shows that Tamils, Feeling Alone in the World, Embrace the Tigers

Scarsdale, NY (PRWEB) April 1, 2009

A poll conducted by Tamils for Obama and answered by 12,300 Tamils world-wide shows that as Sri Lankan government forces close in on Tamils in the Vanni, a region in northern Sri Lanka, Tamils expect no help from the outside world and cling to the Tamil Tigers as their only protectors.
