Tamils to Canada PM: Please Admit Refugees aboard the Sun Sea

The MV Sun Sea arrived in Canadian waters Wednesday with 500 asylum-seeking Tamil refugees from Sri Lanka. Tamils for Obama, a US Tamil organization, wrote to Canadian PM Stephen Harper urging him to admit these refugees to Canada and to be wary of voices saying that some of the refugees might be Tamil Tiger cadres.

Tamils to New York Times: 'You Might Want to Rewrite Your Puff Piece About Travel to Sri Lanka'

The Times published a travel piece last winter that named Sri Lanka as the number-one vacation opportunity for 2010. Amnesty International reports that the article has become part of the public relations package for Sri Lankan foreign Minister G. L. Peiris, who is "currently on a public relations tour through the United States, touting his country as the new paradise for foreign investment, and dismissing war crimes allegations on the way." Tamils for Obama asks the Times editors if they plan to amend the travel article.

 

Tamils for Obama: Urges IIFA to Move the Award Ceremony from Colombo Until Justice is Found for Murdered Sri Lankan Tamils

Holding the awards in Sri Lanka's capitol honors the country that murdered 40,000 unarmed Tamil civilians in a few weeks in May 2009, said the American Tamil organization, and white-washes the Colombo government's participation in the killings.

First-in-History Balloting to Select Transnational Government of Tamil Eelam Set for May 2
